It’s been a busy day today. Went to the dentist this morning for a routine cleaning and left with a new filling and some sealant. Not quite the way I had hoped to spend most of my morning, but that’s alright. I stopped by my local yarn shop later and bought some pretty new yarn:

It’s a sock-weight yarn, but I can’t decide if I actually want to make socks with it, or fingerless gloves, or perhaps a lacy shawl thing. Suggestions? It’s so hard to correctly convey the colors; I really need to calibrate my monitors, but it’s a beautiful pink/grey yarn with a lot of subtle shading. It’ll also be warm, since it’s mostly alpaca. I just love the feel of alpaca.

Anyway. You’ve now had a week of uninterrupted photos of the day. Don’t you feel special? You should.

In less fun news, Logan’s officially getting sick, and I’m trying to tell myself that my sore throat is only a sore throat and that I didn’t pick anything up talking to 4 classes of 8th graders on Friday or at the glee club retreat. We’ll see what’s more likely, but I’m popping vitamin C lozenges like they’re candy. (Oh wait, they are pretty much…)

Oof. It’s going to be a long weekend. Our local SWIP (Society of Women In Physics) group is doing a bunch of demonstrations at a local middle school tomorrow, and right after that I’m off to the semester-ly glee club retreat. Add that to our regular rehearsal making tonight a long night, and I won’t spend too much time at my house until later Saturday afternoon. These things are interesting and fun, but I’ll be pretty wiped by the end of all of it. I think I am going to try to keep up with a picture of the day this week though. Today, you get a picture of the socks I’m going to be making:

Not a great picture, I know, but it’s there. I got quite excited to start my first pair of real (ie – small stitches and with sock yarn) socks, so I couldn’t wait until my sweater is done. They’ll take forever, but I’ll love them.

As a bonus today, I’ll also throw in a photo from my childhood. I apparently need to bring a baby picture to the retreat, and this is what my mother sent me:

Life continues. Nothing too exciting. I spent the weekend doing some work, making sure everything from my old laptop was backed up, and relaxing a bit, etc. Walked a bit through the park on Sunday with my dog:

Yesterday, I found two more example’s of “Duck’s” graffiti:

I still don’t get it.

And today. Today I went and picked up a cheesecake from Old World Bakery. They make Ann Arbor-style cheesecakes. Awhile ago I won a gift certificate from my favorite radio station, but since the bakery isn’t open all that much, it took me awhile to make it there. It’s quite tasty though. We’ll have to see how well it freezes, because it’s an awfully big cheesecake for Logan and me.

I miss heat. I admit that I am one to easily get cold, but the temperature change from Puerto Rico to here makes me sad. And cold. But that’s okay. I’ve survived winters before.

Now that I’m back, I have more work to do to get my laptop up to date as my primary computer. Unfortunately, my previous version of Photoshop Elements wasn’t made for the intel-based macs, so now I find myself without a real photo program. I’d been debating previously about whether I should get Adobe’s Lightroom or Apple’s Aperture for photo management, and now it’s pretty clear that I should get one or the other. They should be able to handle the every day photo editing I need. I may need to get Elements in the future too, but I might see if I can get away with GIMP or some such. At the moment, I’m playing around with the Aperture trial, and while I like it, I’m a bit concerned about speed issues. Lightroom is supposed to be faster, but Aperture seems more flexible. Anyone have any experience with either?

While waiting for the bus yesterday, I saw this:

Duck? I don’t get it. Do you?

And today you get a photo from the Glee Club. For every home football game, we go out and sing for the tailgaters to raise some money. Today was the game with MSU – big rivalries equal big money. Unfortunately for the home team, the game didn’t go so well. The singing did, though, even if it was a bit cold. I couldn’t feel my hands or feet at a couple points. (And yes, I was wearing gloves.)
